PICT Offshore – The Legend Behind the Name

Fun fact! Pict Offshore is so named not just because our GUS equipment pics people up, but also because of where we’re based…Inverkeithing in Fife if you didn’t know. 1,500 years ago, Fife was the Pictish kingdom of Fib, one of 7 kingdoms that extended up the north and east of Scotland. The Picts left a mysterious legacy of carved stones and a reputation for being so tough that they sent the legions of the Roman Empire packing. Indeed, the word Pict comes from the Roman word Picti, meaning ‘painted people’, and is presumed to mean that the Pict’s were fond of a tattoo (or two). We’re proud to use this name as a link to the region’s past, as a reminder to be loyal to your tribe and fierce in the face of challenges. And also to inspire a new generation of Pict body art…
